Plan, promote, recruit volunteers, and solicit donations to assist with Back to School Breakfast, Fall Parent-Teacher Conference Lunch, December Gratitude Gift, May Appreciation Week, etc. 

Organize or assist with two annual book fairs. Recruit volunteers to help. Communicate with Scholastic to reserve materials. Set up times for teachers to bring classes. Distribute information to students and families to promote the fair.

Organize a free movie night for families. Invite community partners to provide information and resources to our FLA families. 

Create a monthly or quarterly newsletter for parents in the general PTO newsletter. Work with the community building chair to plan “Language Practice Play Dates.” Help provide or recruit volunteers to aid in translation during meetings and of print/online materials.

Find opportunities to enhance the education of both language and culture.

Provide resources and family education specific to Mandarin program families and the school at large, including information from The Kansas City Chinese Association, STARTALK, The Chinese School of Greater KC, and The Kansas City Chinese American Association regarding events and cultural celebrations throughout the KC Metro Area. In addition, support Mandarin teachers with resources, Chinese books at the book fair and the annual Lunar New Year event.

After reviewing the FLA calendar, schedule restaurant nights and stadium work days. Seek other pre-organized business partnership opportunities, such as Box Tops. 

Research and apply for grants to support FLA. Establish and seek funding for FLA PTO Endowments.

Decorate and update the PTO bulletin board.

Assist in parent engagement efforts by preparing handouts to be distributed to families. Handouts include information about the PTO’s purpose, ways to get involved, and general information to promote FLA and the PTO.

Support teacher's efforts for students that participate in District Math Competitions, KC Science Fair, Debate Competitions, Immersion Competitions, University Collaboration (including placement tests), Language Proficiency Testing, and College Credit Programs, etc.

Work with the FACE Liasion, school counselor, school social worker, and school nurse to educate and support families about available services. Organize and assist with the Nurse’s Closet, School Clothing Drive, Costume Closet, etc. 

Collect information about parent needs and share with school support staff (for example, a survey for PTO Requests of grocery funds, clothing, legal services, eviction support, after-school care, refugee and migrant services, parent support with academics, etc.)

​Organize and assist with efforts to clean up and enhance the school building grounds, planting trees & flowers, and other projects as needed.

Organize and assist with efforts to beautify school interiors.

Organize "Bike Bus" groups to school.

Manage orders and distribution of spirit wear. Organize spirit wear sales tables.
